Chapter 8

10 Mistakes Beginners Always Make

These are the exact habits that keep players stuck in Bronze and Iron. Fixing even 3 of these will jump your placement immediately.

✓ Do This

  • Save to 50g for interest income
  • Commit to a comp by Stage 3
  • Put 3 items on your main carry
  • Level up at Stage 3-2 / 4-1
  • Check opponents' boards before placing
  • Lock bench units you want to keep
  • Win carousel by tracking HP order
  • 3-star cheap units before buying expensive ones
  • Spread units to counter AoE comps
  • Accept loss streaks — they give bonus gold

✗ Avoid This

  • Rolling every round "to see what shows up"
  • Spreading items 1-per-unit instead of stacking
  • Chasing 5-cost carries at Level 6
  • Leaving bench full and not selling useless units
  • Ignoring carousel to fight in place
  • Never leveling up (staying at Level 4-5 all game)
  • Pivoting comps at Stage 5 with no gold
  • Placing your carry front-row "so they attack faster"
  • Playing the same rigid comp regardless of what you hit
  • Tilting and giving up after Stage 3 losses
The golden rule: Play flexible. The best TFT players don't force a specific comp — they look at what units they're naturally getting and build the strongest board from those units.
