Chapter 3

Champions, Traits & Synergies

Champions have a gold cost, stats, an ability, and one or more traits. Fielding multiple champions of the same trait activates a bonus. Building strong synergies is the core puzzle of TFT.

Champion Costs

Higher cost = rarer + stronger. The shop pool has fewer copies of expensive units, so chasing 5-cost carries early can leave you empty-handed.

1-cost — 29 copies each 2-cost — 22 copies each 3-cost — 18 copies each 4-cost — 10 copies each 5-cost — 9 copies each

3-Star Units

Combining 3 copies of the same champion creates a 3-star version — roughly double the stats and a more powerful ability. 3-starring a 1 or 2-cost carry is a very reliable beginner win condition.

⭐

1-star → 2-star

Combine 3 copies. Happens automatically when 3 hit your bench/board.

2-star → 3-star

Combine 3 × 2-star (= 9 total copies). A 3-star unit is a powerhouse.

Bench Locking

Right-click a unit on bench to lock it. Locked units won't be sold when you hit "sell all". Essential habit.

Trait Breakpoints

Traits activate at specific thresholds. More isn't always better — focus on hitting the first meaningful breakpoint, then add more if easy.

Bronze (2–3 units) Silver (4–5 units) Gold (6–7 units) Prismatic (Max)
Tip: Don't chase every trait. Pick 1–2 primary synergies and 1–2 secondary ones. A focused board beats a scattered one every time.

Shop Odds by Level

Each shop slot draws from the shared pool. Highlighted cells = best level to target that cost tier.
